Solar Farm Issues – Pt 10

Revisiting some issues that are not brought to the forefront when Solar "Farms are being promoted.

Panel Shading. When designing a PV plant, it is critical that trees and other obstructions are cleared. PV cell electrical output is very sensitive to shade. If shaded, cells do not add to the power produced by the panel, but they absorb it. A shaded cell has a much greater reverse voltage compared to the forward voltage of an illuminated one, it can absorb the power of many cells in the string and the output will fall drastically. Removal of any trees or structures causing shading will help optimize power output.

This is why they want to fell an avenue of mature trees near us for "safety reasons".

we know it's rubbish. They are all healthy trees which were planted in the 70s to act as a wind break across the landscape. And as you say they also help hold the soil together especially as they are planted along a ridge line.

If you live next to a projected solar farm site, try going to a site like www.fast-growing-trees.com and order some self defense. Make sure that any trees you plant are on your own property.
